‘Objectified’… a process
The movie Objectified by Gary Hustwit (director of Helvetica) is an excellent documentary about the process of good design. Its main intent is to showcase those who are leading the charge in beautiful products. Companies like Apple and IKEA are two that are mentioned as examples of companies who understand and by into the idea that good design does not necessarily need to cost more, or have the aesthetic features of the object be the most important part of the design.
The would contest that the most important part of the design is how you interact with the object, with the goal being that you would forget about how the product looks, when you invest in the relationship between you and the interface… Essentially they spend a lot of time trying to get the device/object to feel so second nature to you, that you don’t even think about it.
I highly recommend this film to anyone who looks at things and appreciates them for the thought that goes into them.
